Beginner JamTracks

If you are just getting started working with backing tracks, these are a good place to start. These tracks don't modulate to different keys, allowing you to focus on one key and scale throughout the track.

Amazing Gift

This is a cool pop backing track in the key of E major. You can solo over it using the E major scale or E major pentatonic.

Be Strong

This backing track features chords that are diatonic to both C# natural minor and C# Dorian. You can solo with either mode or with both. You can also throw in some pentatonic scale ideas for good measure.

Driving Mid-tempo Rock

This simple, tuneful backing track features an A section and a B section. The first progression (section) consists of the following chords: G, D, and Cadd9. The second section modulates to E minor.

Happy Blue Heart

This blues and A Major has a very happy feel to it. Try to anticipate the sound of each note you are playing and focus on landing on notes of the chords. Don't overdo it and keep your improvisation melodic.

Holy Manna Minor

The bed for this backing track is an early American shape-note tune, HOLY MANNA, from which I've created a minor variation. Practice doubling it in different octaves, or harmonizing to it.

The Thrill Is Absent in Am

This backing track inspired by BB King's "The Thrill is Gone" is a perfect way to develop new melodic ideas using the minor blues scale. This is an awesome track, and a personal fave!

Long Mellow Road

Take advantage of this track's slow tempo to develop musical ideas that have a real impact on the listeners. Your job is to tell a musical story, so work on your phrasing.

Major Spin

Focus on the groove of this backing track and use short simple musical ideas rather than longer complex licks. Following the song’s groove should help you develop a solo.

Play Like Kravitz

This 70's rock backing track is the perfect musical bed to develop new blues rock ideas. Use B Aeolian and B minor pentatonic here and be sure to focus on the groove.

This hard rock chord progression is ideal to develop new ideas using the major scale. Blending the major scale with the major pentatonic scale will give you great results.

This backing track is the perfect musical bed to develop new bluesy ideas using the major scale. Pay attention to the shuffle rhythm as this will influence the way you play.

You will need to concentrate to play over these chord changes. Anticipate the sound of every note you play, and focus on your phrasing and where you are going next.

This slow blues in F# minor is the perfect musical bed for you to develop new ideas. Experiment with chromatic passages as you develop ideas all across the fretboard.

Intermediate JamTracks

These tracks are a little more difficult, and can include things like key modulations, major tempo changes, or just an overall faster meter. Be sure to read the notes for these tracks!

Cruise Control

This backing track has a great 80s hard rock feel to it. It has the perfect tempo to develop longer three notes per string ideas using legato or alternate picking.

D Minor Arcturus

This backing is written in the style of the black metal band Arcturus. The track is played in the D harmonic minor tonality throughout. However, the guitar is tuned down a whole step.

Double Kick Metal

This mid tempo track will stretch your modal fingers and brain, so buckle up before starting this track. It's also a good tempo to warm up with various runs and picked lines!

Fancy Drinks

This slow jazzy chord progression is the perfect backing track to develop melodic ideas using the major scale. Focus on arpeggios and chord tones; don't overdo it!

Major Blue Thing

This backing track follows a typical I IV V chord progression used in the blues. Make sure that you use the Major scale exclusively. Pay attention to the notes you are playing.

Focus on short musical ideas and development. Make every note count and remember that sometimes silence can really make notes stand out. Be creative and dial in!

This track starts off with a horn solo where you can try different chord shapes and rhythms. On the repeat, there is no solo. Here you can try out different melodic ideas.

5 Key Blues

Be careful of the form in this one! Unlike most blues progressions, this track features an 11 bar form. 5 major keys are used here: E, B, F#/Gb, C#/Db, and Ab.

A Place For You

Use this backing track to explore new ideas using the major scale. Because this track is in E Major, you can experiment with a few open strings.

Db Based Parallel Modes

Here's a backing track that allows you to practice your modes. Each mode lasts for 8 bars. Then, the harmony switches to the next mode in the order of the diatonic series.

C# Minor Orchestral Rock

Built from loops this is a tough one in the key of C# Minor due to the transient buildup of the string and woodwind instruments you have to play behind the beat a tad to keep in time.
