Eve 6 – "At Least We're Dreaming" Lesson Notes

Like other Eve 6 songs, this one gets its energy from layering simple and catchy guitar parts in a tasteful and strategic way. As you work through the lesson and the supplemental content, pay careful attention to how guitar parts (even one note held out with the right effect) are placed to create interest over a single chord. Even though you can't play all the parts at once, you can learn a great deal from the arrangement techniques and further develop your rock lick and riff repertoire. There is enough simplicity to play the song all the way through while only missing a few guitar parts by yourself. Or, you could perform an effective arrangement with a friend.

About the Tab
There are two different tab sections included with this lesson. There is a "Main Guitar Parts" tab included. There is also an "Other Guitar Parts" tab. As you follow along with the "Main Guitar Parts" tab, you'll see "Figure" notes that refer to the "Other Guitar Parts" tab. Once you have learned the content from "Other Guitar Parts," it will be clear (by connecting the figure number to the lick or riff) where to play each part as you are following along with the "Main Guitar Parts" tab.

About the audio content:
The track you hear at the beginning of the lesson and in the "audio" section is a near replication of the band's arrangement of the song. I have included the full track as well as a number of variations to help you practice and learn parts with a "Virtual Eve 6" to back you up as a band. Included in the variations is a mix without guitars (I play along with this track repeatedly throughout the course of the video), a drum and bass version, an instrumental, a vocals only arrangement, drums only and more. Be creative with these tracks. Listening through to each variation will also give you a behind the scenes look at how a whole song is recorded and constructed. As you listen to where various sounds are placed in the mix and how guitar tones blend together, you'll start to develop your musical sense and will progress in your own writing and arranging.

A guitar, an amp, a simple flanger effect, as well as a phaser will be all you'll need to replicate the sounds you hear and see in the lesson. Though subtle, the effects used in this song add a lot of taste to the song and are a perfect example of how to use somewhat strange flange and phase effects.

Have fun with this one everyone! -Chris

About Chris Liepe View Full Biography Chris Liepe was born on September 17th, 1981 in Portland OR. His first instrument was piano which he pursued until discovering his love for the electric guitar in high school. He became fans of such groups as Soundgarden, Collective Soul and U2 inspiring him to start singing, songwriting and helping others in their musical endeavors with teaching, co-writing and album production.

Having moved to Colorado with his family, he began gigging, recording and teaching in a number of music stores as well as out of his apartment until deciding to pursue music full time. He moved to Denver, CO to complete a Bachelors in Music Technology and was then hired on by Sweetwater Productions, a division of Sweetwater Sound and one of the largest, most successful recording studios in the Midwest.

Chris spent nearly 4 years at Sweetwater as a producer, recording engineer, studio musician and writer. During this time he had the privilege of working with many artists including Augustana, Landon Pigg, Jars of Clay, and Mercy Me. He also wrote for and played on numerous independent albums and hundreds of radio/TV commercials.

Wanting to get back to his favorite State in the world (Colorado) and feeling the urge to 'go freelance', Chris moved to Greeley, CO and opened his own recording and teaching studio. He continues to write and produce music for artists and agencies and is happy to be among the proud JamPlay.com instructors.
