Hey Chris you did a really good job on this. My question is can it be possible to take the F Minor, can't tell really which notes you were playing, and the extra two notes on the 3rd and 2nd strings which are F# and C#, could they be excluded? Or would it be better to play all chord progressions?

t_bonet_bone replied on February 28th, 2012

Also in the other pattern where we the open D string, open A and then D and G to 6th fret D and G I am very inclined to barre the 4th fret and the 6th with either my 1st finger or second. Thoughts??? Thanks again.

Chris.LiepeChris.Liepe replied on March 2nd, 2012

I couldn't play it that way and get a clean sound every time. If that works for you, go for it! no problem!

rlangtonrlangton replied on March 12th, 2012

I agree with chris on this part.. since there is a slight vibrato, it sounds much cleaning without barring the strings

t_bonet_bone replied on February 28th, 2012

Okay so I have a question. I am playing the part in section 4 Acoustic by hammering down in the fourth fret and following your example until the part where we go for the D and G string in the 6th fret. I want to badly play this part with my 3rd finger and not my fourth. It sounds great is this a weakness for me? Should I push myself to use my pinky here. I have been trying hard to integrate my 4th finger into play but this just feels so unnatural to me. Almost as though it is too close to my 1st finger to use the 4th. Please pm me any responses if this is not the proper setting. Thanks!

Chris.LiepeChris.Liepe replied on March 2nd, 2012

It's always good to try and integrate your 4th finger. It's okay to make the decision to use a different finger, but you have to check your motives. If you feel like you're 4th finger is weak or less capable, you should definitely try to incorperate it in to everything you do. Eventually, you'll want to reach a point in your playing where you don't have a weak finger at all. So, I'd say: Go ahead and try to learn the line with your 4th finger. You'll be better because of it in the long run.

rlangtonrlangton replied on March 12th, 2012

but the span is only 2 notes.. I would think you should be using the 1st and 3rd fingers.. there is no reason to use the pinky here (IMO).. since doing stretch exercises for some time I never would think to lessen the reach of fingers

About Chris Liepe View Full Biography Chris Liepe was born on September 17th, 1981 in Portland OR. His first instrument was piano which he pursued until discovering his love for the electric guitar in high school. He became fans of such groups as Soundgarden, Collective Soul and U2 inspiring him to start singing, songwriting and helping others in their musical endeavors with teaching, co-writing and album production.

Having moved to Colorado with his family, he began gigging, recording and teaching in a number of music stores as well as out of his apartment until deciding to pursue music full time. He moved to Denver, CO to complete a Bachelors in Music Technology and was then hired on by Sweetwater Productions, a division of Sweetwater Sound and one of the largest, most successful recording studios in the Midwest.

Chris spent nearly 4 years at Sweetwater as a producer, recording engineer, studio musician and writer. During this time he had the privilege of working with many artists including Augustana, Landon Pigg, Jars of Clay, and Mercy Me. He also wrote for and played on numerous independent albums and hundreds of radio/TV commercials.

Wanting to get back to his favorite State in the world (Colorado) and feeling the urge to 'go freelance', Chris moved to Greeley, CO and opened his own recording and teaching studio. He continues to write and produce music for artists and agencies and is happy to be among the proud JamPlay.com instructors.
