Learn the Pentatonic Scale

We are proud to present the 23rd lesson in the basic electric guitar series with David MacKenzie. This time around Dave introduces the pentatonic scale. He talks about how the scale is formed and shows the A position. Please note that this is not the minor pentatonic scale, so if you only know the minor position this lesson may be quite beneficial to you.

JamPlay Welcomes David Freshman

We at JamPlay are proud to introduce David Freshman, the latest instructor to join the JamPlay team. In the coming months David will be teaching a Phase 2 lesson series which he calls "Guitar Improvisation from the Heart." You should begin seeing those lessons shortly!

In the meantime, David has prepared 3 blues backing tracks for your jamming pleasure. The tracks are as follows:

Standard Blues Shuffle (E) - This backing track is a standard blues shuffle in the Key of E. This is excellent for playing along with using the blues scale.

Fast Blues (E) - This is a fast, heavy and dirty blues track. Again, the Blues scale works wonderfully, but feel free to experiment with other scales.

Fast Blues 2 (E) - This scale is similar to the first fast blues track but features different rhythm guitar.
Give David Freshman a warm welcome to JamPlay and have a great time with these backing tracks. As always the tracks can be found in the backing track player.

The Brennan Duet Arrives: The Black Crowes - " She Talks to Angels"

This is one of those songs that everyone has heard, even if they don't know who plays it. The Black Crowes released their first studio album in 1990, entitled Shake Your Money Maker. "She Talks to Angels" was track #8 on that album and has been a fan favorite ever since its debut. Mark Brennan breaks out his acoustic and covers this song front to back, including a full song demo. Along with the full demo, we have made good on the sneak peak we let everyone have a few weeks ago. Mark's wife Marla makes a guest appearance in the final scene for a second demo, lending us her vocal talents.

Chris and Rich Robinson wrote a beautiful song almost twenty years ago and its as strong as it ever was. We hope you enjoy "She Talks to Angels", and JamPlay would like to thank Mark and especially Marla for making this such a special lesson.

Two New Backing Tracks

David MacKenzie has just put the finishing touches on two new backing tracks. This time they are as follows:

Country Track (A) - This time around Dave has prepared a track that fits more into the classical country style. It is a mid tempo track and is a blast to jam with.

Hard Rock Track (A) - This track simply screams hard rock. It is in the style of bands like AC/DC and KISS and a real treat to solo with. The tempo is a bit quicker in this one so get ready.
As always these tracks are available in the backing track section of the site. If you have any suggestions for future backing tracks please be sure to let Dave know in the comment section for this news item.
