I started out as a trombone player for many years, studying a little bit in college and playing in a few jazz, funk and rock bands. I picked up a guitar and started noodling around with help from some other novice players and some copied chord charts in the fall of 2013. I have since bought a couple acoustics (don't have an interest in electric yet) and have had only two formal lessons. I've learned how to get around with basic chords and some Travis Picking stuff. I scour YouTube for lessons and hints, and I experiment, improvise and write my own songs/phrases. My background in music and music theory means I understand how chords work together to make progressions, what scales and modes of those scales are, etc. Though I'm intermediate, I'd say I'm advanced enough in the theory dept. I want to know more of and a variety of guitar songs and playing styles!
