Video Question: String Bends

Return to Video Question and Answer Listings
Date: November 5th, 2007 | Length: 2.24 | Instructor: David MacKenzie

Lobserve asks: "I'm having trouble with string bends. If I'm in 5th position and I want to play the 8th fret I use my fourth finger but if I want to bend at the 8th fret I think I should use my third finger. This gets confusing in a solo when I seem to need to switch between third and fourth finger for the 8th fret depending on what I want to do there. Is there a good strategy for this situation? Thanks in advance." Another benefit of being a member of JamPlay is the video response section. Our expert staff fields questions from our members and provides video responses each week.

Mingofalls asks, "Hi, I'm trying to learn more on Music theory, and I'm alittle confused on Major scales the way they the notes are set up. Why does the C Major scale have no sharps or flats, Why is there an F# in the G Major scale, and Why is there a Bb in the F Major scale? I'm somewhat confused on this theory! Thanks! Bending Strings - September 7th, 2007 (2 minutes, 10 seconds)
Chipc asks "Brad, Really like your lessons, I have a question on bending. I watched your lesson, are you rotating your wrist and keeping your fingers locked in to bend the string or are you pushing the string up with your fingers, when you were doing the 7th fret, 3rd string bends...I think I read somewhere that you were suppose to twist the wrist somehow or use the wrist to create the bend...but I'm not sure and wanted to get the word from you. Sincerely, Chip Carter." View Response
