Your New Best Friend

This week we’ll figure out how to read and count basic rhythms as we get familiar with your new best friend, the metronome.

Week 2

3/4 Time

This week we’ll cover basic 3/4 time as we work with backing tracks, learn a new tune and teach ourselves how to swing.

8th Notes

This week we’ll cover basic 8th note concepts and the difference between straight 8ths vs. swung. We will put it all together using scales, strum patterns, backing tracks and a simple song.

Week 4

Dotted Quarter, Tied Notes and Note Emphasis

This week we’ll cover dotted quarter notes as well as tied notes. Along with a quick new tune we’ll also learn four new interchangeable strum patterns.

This week we’ll expand on the intro to syncopation by adding rests and going over the bar as we apply it to new strum patterns and a fun reggae groove.

16th Notes Intro

We cover the three most common ways 16th notes are used. Learn to apply them to new strum patterns and a quick song. We’ll even learn a new scale pattern to help your 8th note to 16th note transitions to go as smooth as possible.

Learn how to subdivide a beat into three with triplets. Not only will these concepts be applied to a short song and scale patterns, but we’ll also learn how to switch out the rhythms of some of our previous strum patterns so that you can create your own.

6/8 and 12/8 Time

This week we take a look at 6/8 and 12/8 time. This is where things start to get really fun.

Advanced 16th Notes

This week we’ll cover the other three common 16th note configurations. In addition, we will learn new strum patterns and a funky song .
