Week 1

10/01/2020 at 4pm

Getting Started

In order to get started, we should probably keep it simple with just a couple chords and a basic understanding of rhythm (don’t worry, if you can count to four, you can hang).

Week 2

10/08/2020 at 4pm

8th Notes and Some Other Great Chords

Basic rhythm is kind of...basic. In this week’s lesson we’ll add 8th notes into the mix in order to really begin to sound like you know what you’re doing. We’ll also check out the G, C and Em chords.

Week 3

10/15/2020 at 4pm

Swing Feel, Syncopation and the Am Chord

Perhaps some of these strum patterns we’ve been working on feel a little stiff. In this week’s lesson we’ll learn the art of a swing feel. We’ll also take on dotted quarters and the Dm chord as well.

Week 4

10/22/2020 at 4pm

3/4 Time and the Dm Chord

Not all music is in 4/4. This week we’ll spend a little extra “time” with the chords we’ve accumulated and check out the Dm chord as well with some new grooves in 3.

Week 5

10/29/2020 at 4pm

Dynamics and Throwing Roots Into the Mix

Ok, by now you should be sounding pretty decent, but you’ll sound even better if you add a little dynamics into your playing. In this lesson, you’ll learn how to break up the chords in order to create a little three dimensional call and response to your playing.

Week 6

11/05/2020 at 4pm

Palm Muting, Alt. Bass and 16th Notes

Why stop at just roots? After all, if you can hit one note in between chords, you can probably hit a couple. In this week’s lesson, we’ll learn alternate bass alongside palm muting and 16th notes.

Week 7

11/12/2020 at 4pm

Passing Bass Notes/Chords and Capo Logic

Adding a capo to the guitar immensely increases the amount of songs you can play. In this week’s lesson, we’ll cover the whens and hows of placing a capo including some basic music theory and how to translate a song with a lot of barre chords into your favorite comfortable open chords that you already know! We’ll also take our knowledge of bass notes even further with some great passing chords.

Week 8

11/12/2020 at 4pm

Sus2, Sus4 and Hammer-Ons

Did you know that these chords are really just pieces of the major scale? And that they’re not static things because you can add or subtract notes from the major scale to them? In this lesson we’ll cover the most classic chord deviations: Sus2 and Sus4. Also, these voicings are super conducive to hammer-ons, so I would be leaving you hanging if I didn’t cover those.

Week 9

11/19/2020 at 4pm

7th Chords and the Em Pentatonic Scale

Besides Sus2 and Sus4, the 7th scale degree is another common note that can be added to our basic chords. In this week’s lesson, we’ll explore some of the open 7th chords along with Em pentatonic scale in order to add some licks in between to make them sound even cooler.

Week 10

12/03/2020 at 4pm

Attempting Barre Chords

At this point in the game, most of you will hit a hurdle: To barre or not to barre, that is the question. Regardless if you’re ready or not, we’ll talk about what barre chords are and how to find and form them. And, if you’re not ready, I’ll hook you up with a couple cheats as well as some bonus things you can do with open chords.
