I am a self taught student and would like to add more structure to my learning without ''noise'' information. That means I want to start from scratch and integrate a good method to my playing step by step and start mastering different styles of playing while using practice exercises that reflect the skills I need to develop. I want to know all there is to know to feel that I am in control of my instrument so that creativity is my only limit. My ultimate goal is improvisation in band setting/composition/gigs. |

I first started playing when I was in highs chool (14 maybe). My friends tought me some chords so I could play a few simple songs. I went along playing with all those same basic chords until my late 20s where I started jamming with my friends for the first time in a band setting. I then realized how limited I was to improvise with them. I was trying to play out of instinct and it was inconsistent and very ''note by note'' without style. I was hooked and saw the potential of that shared pleasure of improvising music with my friends. It was then I started to REALLY seek courses to learn about technique, but most of all, about theory so I would not get lost in my playing. I went on Youtube and learned a great deal from different teachers (Steve Stine was the first teacher who got me going on an ''absolute'' understanding of guitar up to modes). Now, I understand pentatonic/diatonic scales and modes, and don't get lost. I need to keep working the scales to find ways to move horizontally as much as vertically, and also to be able to play originally with more complexity. I also need to spend more time on my technique to have control over the sounds I make. |
