I'd like to focus on my bass guitar journey with JamPlay, I aim to improve my technque, play songs and jam. I love learning classic rock, hard rock and heavy metal songs. For example, studying songs, riffs and licks by bands like Guns n Roses, Pearl Jam, Metallica, Iron Maiden, AC/DC, The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, The Beatles, Prince & NPG, Average White Band, James Brown, Curtis Mayfield, Beck, Bob Dylan, Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Ozric Tentacles. Iā€™d also like to work on rhythm, improvisation and jam along to tracks.
In a Band: No
Skill Level: Intermediate
Guitar(s): Ibanez bass guitar, Fender Electric Acoustic guitar, Mexican Fender Strat, Godin Radiator
Amplifer(s): Marshall Acoustic Soloist, Fender Ampcan
1988 - 1990: I began with an electric guitar learning classic rock and basic jazz, blues, riffs, licks and playing techniques and a few classical and rock guitar lessons.
1991 ā€“ 1997: My playing and practice was quite patchy. I was bass guitarist in a rock band for a year or two. I then got into playing acoustic guitar and I bought a Marshall amp and a Boss effects processor. Took some Jazz guitar lessons.
From 1997 - 2000, I played a lot of Beatles stuff, a bit of classic rock and joined a few jamming sessions at university. This included recording a song for a student record label in a professional recording studio - I played acoustic and electric guitar and co-wrote a couple of songs for an album. Took some rock and playing techniques guitar lessons.
From 2001 - 2003 I joined a music project involving recording music on computer - I cowrote some songs and recorded electric and acoustic guitar parts. Took some rock, funk and playing techniques guitar lessons.
From 2003 ā€“ 2006 I took classical guitar lessons for two years as well learning a few easy classic rock songs. I also started my own recording music on computer project and recorded a bit of guitar. In addition, I did a diploma in Sound Recording and Music Technology in London, UK.
Between 2006 and 2016 my guitar playing, practice, recording music on computer project was very patchy and no guitar lessons.
From 2016 to 2019 - Began regular guitar playing and practice, also started doing YouTube guitar lessons, built very basic home studio and recorded some music with a bit of guitar.
2019 ā€“ 2021: Began the continuation of my bass guitar journey via buying an Ibanez bass and subscribing to Jamplay's bass guitar lessons. Practiced electric and bass guitar about 5 times a week for up to an hour or more. Practice is centred around Jam Play and some YouTube guitar lessons and I've been known to occasionally write and record songs and electric and bass guitar parts on my home studio.
2021 - 2023: Took a break from playing bass guitar and guitar!
2023- present: Decided to start playing bass guitar again and am currently having fun playing bass and hoping to start jamming with friends.
