I'm better at fingerstyle than using a pick. Using a pick I can do down strums but I often catch the high e string too much. I'm still working on getting better at upstrums. There are a number of songs I could play now if I was able to strum both up and down properly. Strumming patterns/rhythms aren't a problem. I can determine a strumming pattern to use by listening to the song. I also want to get better at fingerstyle.

My parents gave me a classical guitar when I was in my teen years but I didn't get very far with it before life took me away from it. Three years ago I decided to get back to playing guitar but it wasn't until two years ago that I bought a new guitar.

I know more than two dozen chords. Some I switch between faster than others. I can't do barre chords yet. I started with fingerstyle at first as I found it easier than strumming. It is the mechanics of dragging a pick across the strings that is the problem. I've been working on strumming lately as there are a lot of songs I'm interested in playing where I already know the chords used in the songs.
