Like many self taut folks out there, I feel a little stuck. There are mountains of information out there and everyone has opinions about what I need to learn. I need help sorting out what's important to keep me engaged- much of this might music theory. I keep trying to learn things but seem to run into contradictions that just make things more confusing.

Anyway, I'm looking for some help navigating the JamPlay site to find the kinds of things that will help me improve my understanding of music and to help with my playing techniques.

I would also love to play with others with confidence. Unfortunately, my age and my profession are not super conducive to playing with other's regularly.

Update 7/4/2017. Just completed the entire David Isaacs beginner course. I have to say it was excellent. I learned a lot about what I don't know and/or what I don't do well (my strumming for example). Dave is a terrific instructor. Even if you're in the intermediate category, you should do his course. I think he inspired me to learn to read music on the guitar, which I never really bothered with. So many notes...so little time. Thank you Dave Isaacs and JamPlay.
In a Band: No
Skill Level: Intermediate
Guitar(s): Ibanez electric; Variax electric; martin acoustic, Ibanez acoustic, hofner shorty and Aria banjo
Amplifer(s): fender- G-dec and an Line 6 Amplify 75 and some homemade practice amps.
I am a classically trained piano player (very early in life). I then switched to violin and then to banjo. I picked up the guitar in college and found it a little easier than the banjo to "diddle" on. I also play harmonica.

Never have been in a band per se. We started one in my condo here but one of us dropped the ball on a family gig and that was the end of it ;-) When I do play with others, I usually don't play guitar because most guitar players don't play piano, banjo or harmonica...

I play irregularly and have probably forgotten more songs than I know. Sad. I would like to beef up my skills so I can play maybe when I retire.
