Learning more about both acoustic & electric guitar. Trying to improvise and play more by ear than relying on tab.
In a Band: No
Skill Level: Advanced
Guitar(s): 1973 Fender Telecaster Deluxe mod to get 7 different tones and 1965 Gibson SG, 45 year old Aria Pro Acoustic and recently received an Ibanez 73B semi-hollowbody
Amplifer(s): Stage: 1972 Fender Deluxe Reverb. Practice: 2007 Fender Frontman so I can use earplugs and it has some great sounds
Started to learn classical guitar from a man named Herb Solo in Long Island who taught at Fordham. I wanted an evaluation to see if I could learn the instrument starting out so late in life. He said he would tutor me for 3 months and then give me my evaluation.
After 3 months he said I would never be a solo classical performer but that I could be a good player. I told him I would settle for good! I then moved back to Greensboro, NC and attended the UNCG School of music. I was 29 (1973). Lasted 1 year. Best friend during that time was Jim Lowry, the guitar player and part owner of The O'Kaysions ("I'm a Girl Watcher"). He turned me on to Da Bluz and I've been in love with that genre ever since. Jim became the musical director for Donna Fargo until her retirement. Jim passed away in 2007 but the memory of him tutoring me is forever in my mind. He had both relative and perfect pitch.

I was a Board member of the Triangle Blues Society and started the jams back in the 1990s. It's here where I started playing on stage. Learned more in the 2 years I hosted the event than I did in the previous 20 playing in the closet! The jams still go on today.
We are just forming a band and looking for a place to rehearse...Starting on Whipping Post (I'm taking Betts part), Slow Ride, Gimme 3 Steps, Key to the Highway are the 1st 4 tunes to work on...We have 2 guitars and bass so far and are looking for a drummer and maybe a keyboard player. The other guitar player could have gone on tour with Buddy Guy but turned it down so he would have a job to come back to ...he has a wife and 3 kids! Is currently the head guitar/bass tech for Guitar Center in Raleigh, NC.

I have been trying to get "good" for a long time. I'll let you know when I get there!
