Rising superstar seeking fame and fortune!!! Haha, maybe at some point in time. Right now i've taken up playing guitar as a hobby and a way to spend free time in a more productive way that is both exciting and rewarding. I recently broke out of my "I can't play guitar, or I don't know what im doing" phase and started asking myself questions like "why can't I play that chord" or "why can't I keep in rhythm". Playing guitar every day has made the guitar feel more a part of me and less of this shaply thing that hurts my fingers and twangs at me when I do something wrong. My back story is im a recent college grad with a degree in Civil Engineering working on becoming a professional engineer in the near future. Im very analytical and methodical, and love to break things down to the roots to see what makes it tick. Im also a huge fan of video games and know my way around a controller or two. I typically enjoy role playing games such as Skyrim and Final Fantasy, anything with a good story that includes puzzles and obsticals that require some thought as to "how am I going to get by this?" and even more of a challange "how am I going to get by this in the most efficient way possible?". When I saw the guitar I was mostly interested in the sound and complexity of how one shape is equivalent to another different shape along the fret board. That one hand had to perform a large range of actions while the other hand performed a completely different action with almost the same level of complexity. Spending some time on Jamplay and doing a little self study I was shown patterns, intervals, progressions and it suddenly reached out to me like equations from my college textbooks. I found out how to relate to this wild and facinating instrument and my learning and understanding is growing faster every day. I love learning something new every day, and even if its just remembering what note is on the 3rd string 5th fret its one more thing I can keep in my back pocket to use forever, where ever the guitar may take me. |
