I am interested in writing my own songs for my own cathartic benefit and I need a more in depth understanding of the guitar as well as a means to tricks of the trade that can help me improve in my general utilization of the guitar and other sound enhancements/modifications through processors and pedals. I've become really interested in the picking styles within prog metal and I want to get to a point where I can play around with the guitar in a similar way.

Grew up with a father who is a guitar player, collector, and hobbyist who has been in numerous bands. I've been at hundreds of different kinds of shows from when I was in high school watching local bands which included friends as well as having my staple bands I always need to see live in order to sustain life (Deftones, Explosions in the Sky, Between the Buried and Me, Mutemath) I started playing guitar when I was in high school, but stopped because I didn't want to practice, I just wanted to listen. Now I'm at a point where I need to get good at the guitar for my own benefit, my father says playing helps him with his anxiety and it gives him an escape, and I love the sounds the instrument can make so much, that I want to be a part of the community that creates as well.
