I am a fifty year old man who are just playing for fun. I all started one Christmas a few years back, where my wife gave me a Electric Guitar starter set, and told me that I should now start playing beautiful songs for her. At that point I already owned an old Ibanez Les Paul clone, which I have had since my teen years, and an old Santana Acoustic which I also had hanging on my wall, I couldn't play on any of those and they where both in a worn out state. Anyhow, after I got this new guitar I started to fiddle around and after a couple of months I decided to take lessons, these went great for a couple of months until my teacher decided to stop, and I got another teacher who was more interested in showing me what he could do than actually learning me anything, so I decided to stop. That was the end of my music life, at least for a couple of years, last year however I decided to get serious about my playing, and I went on-line to see if there where anything out there, and then I found Jamplay. I have now been a member for a couple of years, So my plans for 2014 was, to learn guitar both electric and acoustic and also learn to read and understand music. I have build my own home recording studio, and have therefore also decided that I should learn to play the bass and are looking into learning to play the piano to. My wish from Jamplay are they also include studio techniques (other that the lesson from Chris Liepe, which are great) , but also more in the building process, of making studio rooms, bass traps, etc., and the actual recording techniques. It would also be great if they included a section for piano / keyboard, as the courses out there, are not very interesting and miles away from the standard of Jamplay (and many other guitar sites.) Update January 2014: After a year with a lot of changes, I am now the proud owner of my own studio, a member of a Danish Country/Blues band called Country Heat and doing a lot of progress in regards to playing, so this is a tip to all newcomers (young as well as old), keep practising and keep dreaming, if you really set your mind for it and put the time and effort into it, it is possible to achieve your goals. Update July 2014: And now we have played our first live gig, when we was asked to open a small local country festival with line dancers and all, It was a great experience, and gave us all, the "kick in the but" to do more and be even more serious about our playing. Update April 2016: Still playing in the band and we now play at various small venues and festivals, I personally have switched from playing acoustic primarily, to play electric rhythm, I am also working on my lead skills. My main driver is Blues / Rock and a bit away from the music we play in the band, but playing in the band are good practice, because it teaches you to play in time with others. |
