Tom Ravlic returned to the well of songwriting with a renewed passion following a musical experience that helped reignite the composer?s ?fire in the belly?. Tom completed a Weekend Warrior round through the Allans Music Bourke Street store and was inspired to get back to creating original music. The band in which Tom played during the Weekend Warrior program was named ?BobSquad? in honour of Warrior coach and Australian guitar whiz, Bob Spencer. He purchased recording equipment soon after and lazy weekends turned into a thing of the past.
While Tom?s own compositions have tended to reflect his love of country rock, some roots and blues his musical taste is broad encompassing traditional gospel, classical music ? all the way to heavy metal. His musical training began in childhood learning organ and piano. Tom?s first public performances were as a part of the liturgy at a Croatian Catholic Centre in Keysborough. He has been involved with church choirs, a folkloric dance troupe and amateur theatre over the years. Workplace end-of ?year revues in recent years ended up with Tom wanting to re-engage with his musical roots through Weekend Warriors.
Tom has been a financial journalist and a commentator with a specific focus on accounting-related matters and a consultant to a range of accounting firms including three global accounting practices. Tom amassed clients based in Europe and Australasia over a period of 9 years. He is also a published author having a university text ? a book of readings ? to his credit that was published by John Wiley and Sons. He is currently the Head of Research at the National Institute of Accountants, which is one of the three recognised professional accounting bodies in Australia. Tom has been with the NIA since February 2005 and enjoys the challenges of the role.
