I have been playing guitar for quite few years now but I have the feeling that I just don't know much about music theory, songwriting, fretboard, scales or chords. I've been mostly playing covers or some simple riffs and improvising solos in minor pentatonic or minor natural scales. I want to unlock my guitar playing. I want to advance and grow into a musician.

I have picked up a guitar when I was about 16 years old. Started learning how to play from youtube videos and tabs after that. Starting with opening to One by Metallica, Smells like teen Spirit by Nirvana or Paranoid by Black Sabbath. This way I was learning how to play (like from an instruction manual) completely missing any theory lessons. I was getting better at playing quickly, being the only person in my friends group that could do 3 string sweeping arpeggios.
Being about 19 me and my friends formed a metal band and that was my first and only experience of playing with other people. None of us knew any theory, we were just playing. Did one live performance and after that the band fell apart. We did a few rehearsals after the live performance in our local studio just for fun. I tried to get into some other local bands but even after having a few meet ups here and there it didn't really go anywhere. Every time it ended pretty much the same. They said that I'm good and that my technique is great and I can play really agressive and fitting solos or make some good riffs but they have someone else to play guitar.
From the age of 20 till now (6 years) I was really just grabbing my guitar every now and then to strum it a few times, try a solo and put it back on the stand. I had a few longer (i.e. 10 months long) breaks as I have moved to the U.K. and didn't have a guitar here etc.
Now after that long time of not investing my time into playing I want to get back and get better.I believe that I'm on beginner/intermediate level even though everyone was always saying that I am really good. I want to get back to playing as its a really powerfull and liberating experience for me - to play an instrument and be able to express myself through it. I know that I must learn the building blocks of music, theory, scales and I want to do it.
