How does JamPlay.com teach you?

We understand that guitar lessons can often be confusing and boring. That is why we strive to make all of our lessons easy, fun and step by step so the student is never left confused or bored. Our teachers explain things in a simple, understandable way and give you exercises and fun samples to play to cement your knowledge of the lesson at hand.

On top of our 15-60 minute video lessons, you also get tablature, a written lesson writeup, chord charts and other supplemental content to help make sure you can understand all of the material. Curious to learn more about our teaching methods and see a lesson in action? Check out our free sample guitar lessons.

Phase 1: Basic Guitar Lessons for Beginners

While some instructors jump into teaching genre-specific playing methods, chords, notes, or timing signatures, we start your playing experience with the absolute basics of the guitar. Phase 1 of our teaching method serves to teach you these absolute basics, such as tuning, correct posture while playing, correct finger-placement, reading tablature and how to play elementary chords. Not only will you learn these overall basics, but you will also learn about the guitar itself, with lessons devoted solely to understanding how the guitar functions and creates sound.

Example of Topics Covered in Phase 1:
  • The Absolute Basics & Physicalities of the Guitar
  • Your First Chords, The C, G and D7th
  • Strumming Technique & Right Hand Use
  • All About Chords
  • Introduction to Fingerpicking
  • Bring it Together: Chords & Strumming
  • Chords, Keys, and Relationships
  • Barre Chords & Power Chords
  • Playing Lead & Scales
Mastering this section of lessons will equip you with the necessary knowledge, techniques, and overall understanding of the guitar in order to move onto Phase 2 of our teaching method. Only after you have mastered all lessons in our Phase 1 section should you move onto Phase 2, which allows you to branch off into the learning the methods & techniques of the genre of music you are most interested in.

Phase 2: Genre Lessons and Advanced Seminars

Phase 2 of our teaching method focuses on genre specific techniques and skills. After you have mastered all of the lessons and topics covered in Phase 1, you then move onto your preferred genre of music. Our phase 2 lessons are taught with the overall idea that you are already equipped with a basic understanding of the guitar, how to play notes, read tablature, and position your finger correctly. This way, if you already have some playing experience, you can dive head-first into this more advanced section of teaching.

Example Premise of Phase 2
For example. If you love the blues style of music, yet have no understanding of guitar, you would complete Phase 1 of our lessons to learn the basics, then move onto a specialized blues instructor to advance your talent. Additionally, if you are interested in learning many different genres and styles of playing the guitar, a JamPlay.com membership gives you access to all instructors, phases, and genre-specific lessons.

Phase 3: Learning Your Favorite Songs

A large majority of beginner guitar players simply want to pick up a guitar and play their favorite songs by their favorite artists. After mastering the first two phases of our teaching model, we introduce you to Phase 3, where our teachers take your requests, and teach you how to play your favorite songs. Each week, our members email us their song requests, and we teach the specified song: just for you!

Email us Your Favorite Song, and We Will Try our Best to Teach It
Learning your favorite songs is a great method of using your developed skills and playing something you love. Not only is their great benefit in playing something that is challenge, but it also helps you "get over the hump" and discovering that you can play this instrument. Phase 3 of our process is a service that is unique to JamPlay.com. We urge you to research the internet and find another company that offers this... it simply does not exist! (Until now). Simply post your request on our members forum, and we will look over the song, and if it is properly licensed and available we will try to have one of our instructors teach it.
