Date: February 21st, 2008 | Length: 1.43 | Instructor: Greg Cutlip Jr.

Brianm579 asks, "It is easier for me to play the D Major chord with my 1 finger on the first string (second fret), my 2 finger on the third string (second fret), and my 3 finger on the second string (third fret). The instruction and chord charts show it slightly different, with the 1 and 2 fingers switched from how I do it. Is there any problem with playing it the way I do? I have found it makes it easier with some chord changes. I am concerned that down the road it could cause problems as I learn more." Robearle asks, "Dear D-Mac/Brad, Having been a member of Jamplay for almost a year now there are 1 or 2 things i have noticed. First of all, ALL of the instructors are excellent guitarists. Secondly, quite a few of them have a beard or a goatee, There's D-Mac, Jim Deeming, Mark Brennan, Dennis Hodges, Nick Greathouse and of course, Steve Eulberg, who is not only armed with a beard, but a pony tail too!. My question is this: Do you think growing a beard or a goatee will help to improve my playing? ...and if so, what shade would you recommend?. I know that D-Mac has tried goatees of various colours since I joined Jamplay and I would love to know which one works best for him? Thanks in advance. Rob. " View Response
Barre Chords and Transistions - August 28th, 2009 (5 minutes, 27 seconds)
Mcs88keys asked "I know how to construct all of the barre chords and how to find them on the fretboard. But I need help with switching cleanly, especially from an open to a barre chord. (like D to Bm or E to C#m) I never feel secure when I have to play a barre chord. I'm always hoping I nail it instead of knowing I will. Do you have any tips on what to aim for or some way to practice more effectively? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks, Michael." View Response
Guitar Picks - May 26th, 2008 (2 minutes, 11 seconds)
Levick11 asks, "Hi, I'm having trouble figuring out what pick gauge I should use. Could someone give an explanation on the differences in gauge and style of guitar picks? I've read that thinner ones are better for strumming and rhythm playing, and thicker ones are better for speed. Is that true or is it just player preference? Thanks." View Response
Rhythm Guitar Practice Songs. - February 19th, 2008 (1 minutes, 18 seconds)
Alexs Asks, "Hi, the lessons are going great at the moment, I thought I'd try to start learning some songs to get a feel at how well my chord progressions are coming along. Please could you let me know if there are any songs on the website that are taught with a focus on rhythm as opposed to melody, (ie sing the melody over the chords) Thanks Alex" View Response
