Callus - April 23rd, 2008 (1 minutes, 21 seconds)Jdemail78 says, "I've been taking Steve's lessons for the past month and during the first week, my finger tips hurt each day I played but I kept on playing because I knew that eventually I'd build up callus on the ends of my fingers and the pain would go away. Sure enough, that happened for the most part but recently they've been starting to hurt again. Not as much when I'm done playing, more when I start playing. After I play for a little while, the pain goes away (like a numb sorta feeling) and then by the time I'm done, they are hurting again. I guess what I'm wondering is how long does this go on for? I can tell that I have callus on my fingers but some of the pain is still there. Does it ever go away completely or do you eventually just get used to it? Thanks." View Response- July 10th, 2008 (4 minutes, 70 seconds)Luelennon asks, "Hello everybody, my question is the following: I play the guitar (by ear and have a very basic musical knowledge) but have always played rhythm. I would like to learn lead. What would you say would be the best way to start? I am now trying to learn to read tablatures, but there are a lot of terms that I don´t know what do they mean ( Riff, Fill, etc), about this, is there any lesson regarding how to read the tablature? Thank you very much. Regards Lue" View ResponseSwitch Position Humbucker Pickups - June 9th, 2008 (1 minutes, 49 seconds)swhan asks, "Hi, I play a Yahama ERG121C. It has 2 humbucker pickups separated by a single coil. I'm trying to figure out what each position of the 5 position switch does. Any help is greatly appreciated. :) Stephen" View ResponseUsing a Capo - September 15th, 2009 (1 minutes, 50 seconds)If I am playing a chord progression in the key of G and a 2nd guitar is playing a lead line using the Em pentatonic scale, what happens if a capo is put on the 7th fret of the second guitar. Does the lead guitar now play in the Am pattern? A capo on the 7th fret with a C chord pattern produces a G chord sound; so do you use a Am pattern (relative minor of C) to get the sound of Em pentatonic scale. I hope this isn't confusing. View ResponsePlaying Upstrokes - February 3rd, 2009 (1 minutes, 28 seconds)Lucasholland asked "Hello, is it necessary to strike all the strings belonging to a chord when doing an upstroke? I read somewhere that only the treble strings have to be played when doing upstrokes (and all of the strings for downstrokes). Is that correct or do all of the strings that belong to a chord have to be strummed when doing an upstroke? Thanks and keep up the excellent work, Lucas." View Response
