I found this question on the site in the forum. Let's say I and a friend are playing together in the key of G. My friend is playing the G chord and he will play the I IV V progression. I am playing the pentatonic scale in G. When my friend changes chords, do I change the scale I am playing in or do I stay in G? I hope this question is clear. Thanks John Another benefit of being a member of JamPlay is the video response section. Our expert staff fields questions from our members and provides video responses each week.

A Minor Pentatonic Scale Positions - May 12th, 2009 (6 minutes, 42 seconds)
Hcso asked "My question is for Brad Henecke. I have memorized and have been practicing the 4 positions of the A minor pentatonic scale. I am trying to get to a point where I can go to any position and just play solos out of a box or position. I'm having a hard time with this. Does it matter if you start out on the 6 th string going up the position or should I start on the first string and work down the position trying to pick notes. I watch you and it looks like you do both and I imagine your suppose too. I find a pattern of my own that I like and then I'm stuck because I try to jump into another position and it don't sound right at all lol. Hope this makes sense. I really enjoyed the lessons, however haven't learned the 5th position yet. Josh." View Response

Playing Upstrokes - February 3rd, 2009 (1 minutes, 28 seconds)
Lucasholland asked "Hello, is it necessary to strike all the strings belonging to a chord when doing an upstroke? I read somewhere that only the treble strings have to be played when doing upstrokes (and all of the strings for downstrokes). Is that correct or do all of the strings that belong to a chord have to be strummed when doing an upstroke? Thanks and keep up the excellent work, Lucas." View Response
Playing While Standing - February 3rd, 2009 (2 minutes, 20 seconds)
Hcso asked "Instructors, My question may sound a little dumb but I've been playing and practicing the guitar long enough in the sitting position, that when I stand up with it everything is off. I'm hitting the wrong strings and not finding my powerchords like I can from the sitting position. This is very frustrating. Has anybody else had this problem. Do I need a strap that brings the guitar closer to me? I don't know what else it would be. Any help is welcome Josh." View Response
Playing with Other Guitarists - February 2nd, 2009 (2 minutes, 59 seconds)
Herronc33 asked "When playing with multiple guitars what are some tips, guidelines, or even examples of how you can make them compliment each other. I've noticed that it tends to sound muddy if you play the same thing. Thanks and God Bless, Chris." View Response
