Video Question: Tuning with Harmonics

Return to Video Question and Answer Listings
Date: October 31st, 2007 | Length: 2.33 | Instructor: Steve Eulberg

Ginrose asks: "I'm not a rank beginner, but since it's been so many years since I've played the guitar, I started back from the beginning with beginner lesson 1. Steve demonstrated how to tune with the fifth fret method and an electric tuner. Fine and good. I already knew those methods. However, my teacher years ago taught me to tune using harmonics - The harmonic tone on the 6th string 5th fret is the same as the open 1st string. Long ago that was my preferred method but now I can't remember how to tune the rest of the strings. Can Steve or any of the other teachers help here?" Rafldr asks: "Hello to everybody, The first thing I want to say is that I love the course. I consider it perfect for beginners like me Now, I'm having problems when I have to fret a string I touch the one next to it. Also, when I fret the lower strings I touch the higher ones. What should I do about it? Thanks Raf" View Response
Strumming - February 5th, 2008 (2 minutes, 57 seconds)
Erk1024 says, "Hi, After trying out several other teaching web site, this is by far my favorite! When you are strumming up and down, do you turn your hand a little bit on the up-strums? It seems like my down strums are OK, but when I up-strum the pick seems like it wants to catch a little bit. It seems to work better with a thinner pick. Do you roll your hand a bit so the pick is at an angle to the strings, or do you always keep it perpendicular? Thanks! Eric" View Response
Playing Guitar With Otthers - August 2nd, 2007 (1 minutes, 41 seconds)
Tviolet2000 asks, "I'm new at playing guitar and have always played by myself. Some experienced players want me to jam with them. Do you have any tricks or tips for me to practice before I go out into the real world?" View Response
Relaxing Left Hand - August 13th, 2007 (0 minutes, 21 seconds)
Crosscut619 Says "I have been a JamPlay member for about 4 days now. I get everything that Steve is telling me about positioning my fingers in my left hand. My only problem is while I'm practicing chords, after a while, my left hand gets stiff. I always have to stop and shake my hand a lot. I don't know how to relax my fingers while playing, because when I do, the sound messes up. Any thoughts?" View Response
barre chords - May 6th, 2008 (3 minutes, 32 seconds)
Crackspackelpop asks, "I've just recently started playing the guitar and find your site very helpful. However, I'm now at the point where I'm starting into barre chords. When I play these types of chords my hand fatigues rather quickly. My question is this: Are there any types of guitar playing exercises that I can do to build up hand strength? Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated. Keep up the excellent work. Ron" View Response
