About our Live Courses

We have upgraded, revamped, and organized in-studio, live weekly workshops broadcasted in 1080p. These focused, task-based workshops include full tablature, interactivity with the instruction, and even homework each week. We are bringing live, educational instruction into the next generation with this platform.

5,000 Lessons

In 2016 and 2017, we completely re-engineered our recording studio with top of the line gear, including a full suite of 4k cameras complimented by a new audio outfit. The result is beautiful live streams to your computer, in qualities as high as 1080p!

79 Instructors

Each live course is supplemented with full tablature, music notation, and even backing tracks. Our live lessons are focused, planned, and even give you homework options on how to improve and look forward to the following week.

Live Lessons

Our staff fields questions from the audience throughout each section, and opens the "classroom" up for questions throughout each course. You also have the ability to call in live with your own video stream!

Our live platform has been a major focus over the past 18 months, and we are very excited to fully unleash it's capability! Attend any of these courses with a full JamPlay subscription and get the benefit of full interaction with our instructors in a focused, planned course. We even have the ability to field your questions with live video call in!

Date Topic

Week 1

02/13/2018 at 6pm Get Access

Leaving the Woodshed

We start our course with a simple I-IV blues jam to get warmed up, focusing on chord comping on guitar. We then discuss the first step in the journey of playing with others: how to find musicians in your community.

Week 2

02/20/2018 at 6pm Get Access

Bar Hoppin'

This week introduces one of the most ubiquitous chord progressions in history: the 12-bar blues. This leads into a discussion about open jams. We discuss how and where to find them, and the etiquette expected for getting on stage.

Week 3

02/27/2018 at 6pm Get Access

Shuffle City

We stick to the 12-bar form but introduce a new rhythmic feel known as the blues shuffle. For this week’s discussion, we talk about how to organize a jam session at your home.

Week 4

03/06/2018 at 6pm Get Access

Getting the Band Together

We move from covering chord comping to focusing on simple riffs, starting with a blues-rock vamp in G. We then move on to talk about the basics of starting a band.

Week 5

03/13/2018 at 6pm Get Access

The Classic Six

This week introduces another rhythm concept, a 6/8 blues shuffle in the style of the classic track “Earth Angel.” We discuss common issues of being in a band and organizing other musicians including scheduling, practicing, and dealing with other problems.

Week 6

03/20/2018 at 6pm Get Access

Minor Troubles

We look at a simple riff idea over a minor blues progression. This leads us nicely into discussing writing charts and understanding how to communicate with others by using intervals.

Week 7

03/27/2018 at 6pm Get Access

Writing Together

Our focus this week is not on a pre-recorded track, but in writing a song from scratch. Through the process of coming up with an entirely new and original song, we discuss ideas relating to writing new music with other musicians.

Week 8

04/03/2018 at 6pm Get Access

Red Means Recording

We move from riffs and chords to learning some simple soloing ideas over a ii-V funky groove. The discussion topic for this week is recording with your group. How to prepare for it, where to do it, and what to expect.

Week 9

04/10/2018 at 6pm Get Access

Tell the World

Continuing to learn about soloing ideas, we go over a slow 12-bar blues in D. We also talk about the non-musical aspects of having a group, including management, promotions, and booking gigs.

Week 10

04/17/2018 at 6pm Get Access

Thank You, Detroit!

We round out the course with a 2-part blues-rock track, incorporating all of the musical elements we’ve learned. The final discussion topic covers playing out as a band or group, whether at paying gigs or open mics.
